Description

Albourne Estate Bacchus Frizzante

England’s first Frizzante.  Albourne Estate Bacchus Frizzante is light, fresh and ever so gently sparkling, this is a delightfully light-hearted way to enjoy our Bacchus wine.  The beautiful label image of a murmuration of starlings over the iconic West Pier in Brighton was drawn for us by tattoo artist, Jo Chastney.  Starling numbers in the UK have declined by over 80% in the last 50 years. Albourne have decided to donate 20p from every bottle sold to the RSPB to help them in their work to save threatened bird species, including starlings.  For more about murmurations please read Albourne’s recent post.

TASTING NOTES:

Albourne Estate Bacchus Frizzante has all that classic Bacchus varietal character, with cut grass, elderflower and green citrus aromas. To taste, it’s got a brilliantly clean and zingy greeting, with developed flavours of pear, green apple and tangy grapefruit.

Albourne Estate Vineyard Profile

Albourne Estate is a family-owned vineyard and winery overlooking the beautiful South Downs, just eight miles from Brighton in the heart of the Sussex countryside. Albourn’s winemakers craft small quantities of award-winning still and sparkling English wine using only our own sustainably grown grapes.

Albourne’s Story

Albourne Wine Estate was established in 2010 by husband and wife team, Alison Nightingale and Nick Cooper. It has rapidly established itself as an innovative and quality-led English wine producer at the forefront of this rapidly growing industry. Following a career in marketing working overseas for large multinationals, Alison took a step back in 2004 and with two young children completed a Viticulture & Enology degree at Plumpton College, before searching for their own site to establish a vineyard in England.    After a lengthy search they came across Albourne Farm, just 5 minutes from where they lived in Hurstpierpoint, with the perfect combination of location, geology and buildings.

Over the past 11 years they have established the vineyard, a winery and a stunning new Tasting Room.  From winning ‘UK Wine of the Year’ in 2015 with a Bacchus wine from the second ever harvest, the range, quality and reputation of Albourne Estate wines has grown. This includes traditional and charmat method sparkling wines, white and red still wines and one of the first English Vermouths.   Alison continues to manage the day-to-day running of the Estate and lives on-site with Nick and her three daughters, two dogs, four pygmy goats, four sheep, six chickens and a cat!
