Wolstonbury's Story

Ivan grew up in County Durham and was the fourth child of five in an enterprising family that has been actively farming for many generations. A hard-worker and endless perfectionist, Ivan embodies an unusual combination of artistic ability with a practical nature thanks to his hands-on upbringing.

Charlotte started out life in Holland among the vibrant tulip fields. Another creative soul, Charlotte is a weaver by craft and thrives on bringing good ideas to life, be it a piece of cloth or a vineyard or, indeed, many other things in between.

This story starts when Ivan and Charlotte met at university in 1999. Their happy union soon blossomed into marriage, followed by the blessing of three children: Vigo, Angus and Arabella.

"We planted the vineyard at Wolstonbury in 2015 by hand over two weekends with a little help from friends. It was jolly hard work, planting by tractor light well into the night to get the job done. However it has proved so incredibly rewarding and we love this journey that we are on - nurturing our vines on our wonderful chalk soil within this magnificent location in the South Downs and producing wine that we are truly proud of."

Ivan and Charlotte bring a wide range of qualities to the vineyard and wider 90 acre farm that it sits within. With both working in other fields, they are able to draw from experiences and skills to bring a truly personal and authentic style to Wolstonbury.
